Port Macquarie's relaxed vacation atmosphere is perfectly captured by these generous holiday apartments, which overlook its Town Beach. A part of a new development, the apartments at Sandcastle Terraces provide magnificent views from one of the best locations in town.
The studio apartments are free flowing and well suited to singles or couples, with an open-plan design, king-size beds and gourmet kitchens. Families prefer the two-bedroom units (king and two singles), which have separate living rooms and larger balconies. Glamorous bathrooms – we love the glossy mosaic tiles – with deep spa baths are a great holiday treat. But it is the special touches that make Sandcastle really stand out: broadband internet access, huge bi-fold doors that open onto the balcony, funky furnishings and the keyless entry so you will never be locked out.
Across the road, the patrolled Town Beach is terrific for swimming, and walks along the  Hastings River at sunset are particularly romantic. The Port Macquarie district teems with natural attractions and wildlife. Sea Acres Rainforest Centre has a beautiful treetop boardwalk and the nearby billabong nature park has daily koala cuddling sessions.
