If you are after a relaxing break or a stopover en route to Byron Bay or Brisbane, The Studio at Blue Poles Gallery and Cafe makes an inspired choice. You literally step away from the road and up into the trees at this former artist's retreat, which commands a handsome hinterland setting close to Port Macquarie.
The comfy studio apartment has warmly relaxed tones, a log fire and a balcony with spectacular views of the Quintoc Ranges. It's all extremely private and you even get sole use of the pool. The Studio's friendly hosts love guests to wander the property's bushland setting and you may even get to pat one of the horses. Check out the contemporary art gallery and, if you're trip is well timed, you'll catch one of the lively events hosted at Blue Poles, including their monthly arts events.
Peckish' The award-winning cafe, which has featured in Delicious, serves exquisite  three-course dinners as well as breakfast, lunch, decadent cakes and great coffee. Only home-grown fruit and vegetables and local produce are used and everything from the mayonnaise upwards is homemade. A culinary and cultural beacon.
