The grand heritage surrounds of the Old George and Dragon Guesthouse instantly transport its guests back to a more relaxed era. Like its sister property — the Bronte Guesthouse in nearby Morpeth — this former coaching inn masterfully combines the old with the new to great effect. The five sumptuous guest suites are distinctively decorated with striking artworks, elegant antiques and the latest flat-screen LCD TVs.
We always look forward to the culinary creations at the Old George and Dragon Restaurant. This independently run, award-winning restaurant uses the finest local produce, resulting in exquisite tastes to tantalize the gourmand's palate. The intimate setting of a romantic, period dining room and an impressive wine list create a superb dining experience for guests, who can then totter lazily to their suites.
This historic guesthouse is the perfect base to explore the historic region of Maitland, a
must when visiting the Hunter Valley region. Major wineries are nearby and wine tours and transfers by stretch Mercedes-Benz limousine can be booked by prior arrangement with the hosts. Location: 170km or two hours north of Sydney. RA 23 A5.
Facilities: Five ensuite rooms (flat screen LCD TV, DVD, CD, RC AC. Wireless broadband for a fee). Courtyard/breakfast room, guest lounge, restaurant. Full breakfast served; dinner, bed and breakfast packages available. Off-street parking.
