Located up on the New England plateau, Petersons Armidale Winery and Guesthouse is a majestic setting for a superb country experience. The homestead was built in 1911 by the Dangar family (famous pastoralists in the New England district) and a recent restoration has returned this outstanding property to its former glory. Perhaps that explains why it has become such a favourite of visiting judges, doctors, executives and leisure travellers with a nose for the best.
Seven spacious suites are stylishly decorated and feature gorgeous period antiques. Most rooms have double spas or elegant claw-foot baths. So, after a calming soak, wander down to the impressive Grand Hall lounge with its roaring fire and unwind as you sip on a fine wine from the award-winning Petersons Winery. The winery serves delicious local produce for lunch in the heritage-listed gardens and, at weekends, the cellar door puts on a gourmet barbecue. Wedding parties understandably love the place.
We relished the a la carte breakfast served in the Drawing Room – a sumptuous feast befitting a grazier setting out for a day on the horse. Absolutely unforgettable.
