The charming hillside township of Leura has been a favoured retreat of Sydneysiders for more than a century. And you only have to visit to know why: set in the magical misty Blue Mountains, high above the humid basin of sprawling Sydney – but just 90 minutes' drive away. One of our favourite hideaways is the adorable Strawberry Patch Cottage.
‘Cottage' really doesn't do justice to this opulently appointed mini manor with its gold damask-covered beds and delightfully placed spa, wrapped in a bay window with views of the garden and recessed speakers to aid your tranquil soak. For those crisp mountain nights there are big soft doonas and fluffy down pillows to lay yourself quietly down to sleep. And when you arrive, there are no chatty hosts to disturb your peace, just a crackling fire in winter and soft music, thoughtfully set just for you.
Charming Leura village is just a few minutes' walk away, making it easy to slip out for a  meal if you don't feel like using the full kitchen or throwing a barbecue for yourselves on the deck. To cap it all, there is a gorgeous cottage garden to ensconce you in nature's beauty.
