Once the prim lodgings for teachers from a local girls school, historic Branksome House has undergone a prodigious restoration thanks – perhaps unsurprisingly – to the owner, a professional interior decorator. Located in the lovely Blue Mountains town of Leura, this quaint cottage is enveloped by a meandering Sorensen garden that parades extraordinarily vibrant colours in spring and autumn.
A classical French-Italian style flows through this superbly presented hideaway, which is adorned with fascinating curios and rich Persian rugs. Two ensuite bedrooms feature individual decor: Toscana has soft golden tones and a relaxing sitting room whose bay window overlooks the front garden. The vivacious blue- and white-themed Provence has a sumptuous spa bath and charming courtyard views. Soft, inviting sofas in the lounge are perfect for curling up on in front of the wood fire on frosty winter evenings.
 A short stroll takes you into relaxed Leura with its fine cafes and boutique shops, considered by many as the best in the Blue Mountains. But don't miss out on the beautiful local walks, which lead to picturesque picnic areas and cascading natural waterfalls.
