McLaren Vale, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island
McLaren Vale is in the back garden of Adelaide. It was founded by hardy British settlers in the 1840s, finessed by European migrants in the 1940s, and given its fame in the 1980s for its bounty of regional produce and wines.Today, McLaren Vale town and its surrounding region have become a place of pilgrimage for lovers of crisp whites and its signature shiraz. The area offers the sort gastronomic meanderings that food and wine lovers dream about — and all just beyond vibrant Adelaide.
Kangaroo Island is a living natural history museum, its wildlife isolated and preserved by the passage you cross on the short ferry ride. Bring your car (or hire one at the airport) and get set to explore some astonishing places. Fish at American River, savour honey from the world's only pure-bred Ligurian bee colony and enjoy local produce and wines on your travels.
Remember, we have personally visited each and every property we recommend, so our reviews are an accurate account of the experience you can expect. And the photographs are all recent, so there should be no disappointments when you arrive.
