Accommodation in Brisbane for explorers and romantics alike

Queensland’s capital retains much of the warm, sub-tropical ambience of a grand, old country town of the north. It meanders along the winding banks of its broad river, with each twist and turn revealing more of this wonderful city: gorgeous pockets of Queenslander architecture, galleries, boutiques, luxury accommodation and some of Australia’s best al fresco dining.

Apart from boutiques and boardwalks, riverside restaurants and cafes, Brisbane has some important cultural icons including the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art, which has splendid post-1900 works. Unapologetic romantics love the Mount Coot-Tha district, which has Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens and one of Australia’s best night cityscapes.

Adventure travellers will get a thrill from the rock climbing at the Kangaroo Point cliffs or the Story Bridge adventure climb. The latter involves two-and-a-half hours of spectacular views of the city and a full commentary on Brisbane’s intriguing history.

From conveniently located accommodation, Brisbane becomes a fine starting point to reach an astonishing variety of regions. Take your pick from the rich ecological treasures of the Moreton Bay islands, the upbeat holiday playground of the Gold Coast, the laid-back Sunshine Coast and its hinterland of small towns, rainforests and picturesque farmland.
Moreton Island, also known as Tangalooma, is Brisbane’s easy-to-reach marine park. In just over an hour, visitors can be strolling on white beaches, snorkelling, frolicking with dolphins or watching feeding time with the pelicans. Marine biologists are on-hand to educate and entertain young naturalists with hands-on sessions exploring the island’s diverse ecology.

Aside from the beautiful Moreton Island accommodation available, the island’s attractions include wildflower heaths, sand dunes, freshwater lakes, whale watching from June to October, coloured sands and rugged cliffs. You can also get with sand boarding, sea kayaking, four-wheel driving, sailing, windsurfing and diving among various shipwrecks. In the lower reaches of Moreton Bay lies sublime Macleay Island. Its sheltered location, sandy beaches and mangrove foreshores are ideal for swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking and barbecues. Water taxis run seven days a week, connecting Macleay to other bay islands and the mainland.

The best place to discover all this city and its nearby suburbs have to offer is by basing yourself close to the action using our handpicked Moreton Bay Island and Brisbane accommodation.
