St Kilda Road is one of Melbourne’s finest tree-lined grand boulevards, making it the perfect setting for the equally splendid Hotel Charsfield. Built as a mansion in the 19th century, when Melbourne was booming on the back of the gold rush, the hotel is heritage listed and offers guests a gorgeous blend of historic grandeur with today’s comforts and attentive service.Business travellers and holiday-makers alike will find the ambience of the snooker room, or the shady front verandah bar perfect for relaxing after a day of work or play. The restaurant has a French bistro style menu, and we couldn’t think of anything better than enjoying dinner on the front verandah on a balmy evening.
The rooms do the façade complete justice with their fine furnishings, plush curtains, elaborate ceilings and marble fireplaces – and if you have to work, all are wired for modern communications. Close the laptop’s lid, and it’s time for a massage in The Beauty Room, or sit back and let the hotel staff look after you.
