The mighty Murray goes modern. If you like country touring with contemporary style, you will love the absolute riverfront of Baseby House. The first impression is of the sweeping drive, flanked by roses, that leads to the modern, elevated house with its soaring roofline. A lightfilled gallery stairway hosts local artwork, to be admired as you ascend to the two guest suites.
Each suite is generous with space and opens to a large balcony with river views. We love the spa suite, with its ensuite that shares these views through a picture window into the room and then to the river beyond. The interior style combines neutral tones with highlights of colour that complement rather than overpower the view. There is a certain ambience born of Baseby House's sensational riverfront location: the tall river gums in the garden and the steamboats chugging up and down the river all add to the charm.
The hosts are amiable without being intrusive and Charmaine's buffet breakfasts are not to be missed, served in the breakfast room or on the verandah. You can explore Mannum, take a steamboat trip or simply flake out on the balcony and watch the world sail by.
